ESTERO
RHYTHMS
I have had the privilege of spending
some time near the Sea of Cortez in
Sonora, Mexico. It's a wonderful
escape from the cold and snow of
Colorado. Its where the humid ocean
air meets the dry, stark desert. I
watch in fascination as the tide of
flashing blue water spills onto the
rippling beach. The warm water
slowing fills the estuary and it
comes alive with fish, birds and
oyster farmers. The quiet is broken
only by a seagull and the breeze
rushing through the mangroves. The
sky and the sands are bleached and
bright as the waves bring in the
ocean's debris. Millions of shells
battered and polished. I keep
walking as I shield my eyes to the
bright sun. This is the rhythm of
Estero.
